Cycle hire scheme in the City from July 2010

Cycle hire stations in 28 City locations ("docking stations") were opened on 30 July 2010.

Anyone aged 14 and over can hire a bicycle for a journey, with the expectation being that journeys will be short. The first 30 minutes are free with costs varying after that.

Access fees:

  • £1 for up to 24 hours
  • £5 for 7 days
  • £45 for the year

Hire fees:

  • First 30 minutes: free
  • £1 for an hour up to £50 for 24 hours (max)

Users will be able to pay £3 to become a member of the scheme and receive a chip-enabled key that provides easy access to the biles.
