A year of success for City and Hackney Carers' Centre

City and Hackney Carers' Centre had cause for celebration at their AGM on 6 September when they celebrated a year of achievements. Like many organisations, they had faced the worry produced by a reduction in local authority funding. However, success in developing alternative sources of income meant that the balance sheet showed an improvement on last year's.

In a surprise for guests and members attending, Mr Billy Dove MBE, Chair of the City Bridge Trust,  handed over a cheque for £100,800 to ensure the centre's Advice Service will continue for another three years. He received warm applause and thanks from a packed conference room.

The Worshipful the Speaker of the London Borough of Hackney, Councillor Susan Fajana-Thomas, added her thanks and praise to staff, volunteers and trustees. She also had a surprise for everyone when she announced that she would support the centre as one of her named charities.

CEO Maggie Bromage took the opportunity to highlight two new services: time banking and buddying services.
